Watch: Coutinho Attempts To Recreate THAT Gerrard Goal Against Olympiakos

The 8th of December 2004 gave us one of the most memorable goals of the last fifteen years.

For Liverpool fans, it's when Steven Gerrard struck one of the most amazing goals that Anfield has ever seen. Neil Mellor's flick down, the absolute rocket from the right boot of Gerrard into the back of the net. It sent the Reds through to the knockout stages of the Champions League, which they would go on to win.

For most other football fans, it's the moment Andy Gray had an orgasm live on commentary:

Liverpool don't have that kind of centre midfielder anymore, but Jordan Henderson is getting there.

What they do have is a little Brazilian magician in Coutinho. He's fond of the odd screamer or two himself. Liverpool were knocked out of the FA Cup by Wolves in the previous round, so had the weekend off.

Not fully, though. BT Sport went to Melwood, their training ground, to test Coutinho as part of their 'Goals Recreated' series. Four chances to repeat the thunderbolt from Gerrard.

While he does find the back of the net once, it's nowhere near the corner that Stevie G rattled. He probably could've been given a better flick on from James Milner, but still.

To be fair to Coutinho, it's doubtful whether even Gerrard could repeat that strike.

Liverpool's next game is next Monday as they head to the home of the champions. They're currently a point off Arsenal in fourth, so need a result to go their way if they want to return to the elite competition in European football.
