"All He Does Is Criticise" - Jose Mourinho Slams Paul Scholes' Negativity

Paul Scholes rarely seems impressed ... with anything.

After a glittering playing career with Manchester United, the famously reserved midfielder began exploring his post-playing options.

Among a cohort involved in extracting every penny imaginable from the Class of '92 brand, Scholes often turns his withering look toward the Premier League on BT also.

Prone to condemning the mistakes he has seen United make post-Ferguson, Jose Mourinho has had enough it seems.

Having previously chastised Michael Owen for his comments regarding Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Mourinho has challenged Scholes for his disparaging remarks regarding Mourinho's prized possession; Paul Pogba.

Speaking in the wake of a man of the match performance from the Frenchman as United overcame Everton 2-0, Mourinho made no bones about his disdain for Scholes' input:

I think the only think Paul Scholes does is criticise. I don't think he comments, I think he criticises, which is a different thing. Not everyone of us has to be phenomenal like he was as a player.

Paul Pogba tried to do his best all the time. Sometimes he plays very well, sometimes he plays well, sometimes he doesn’t play so well.

It’s not Paul’s fault that he has made much more money than Paul Scholes. It’s not Paul Scholes’ fault either, it’s just the way football is. I think Scholes will be in history as a phenomenal player, not as a pundit. I prefer to look at him as a phenomenal player that gave so much to the club that I am proud to represent.

It is a strange demonstration of how far football has traveled in the last number of years that now even Paul Scholes can be accused of bitterness over not earning as much as these modern players.

That being said, even during a career that yielded 11 Premier League titles, Scholes' wage would scarcely have touched Pogba's astronomical pay packet.

Going on to twist the knife a little further, Mourinho almost encouraged Scholes to come and have a pop at him next:

If Paul one day decides to be a manager, I wish that he can be 25% as successful as myself. 50% of that is 12.5 silverware, 25% is around 6. If he’s 25%, he’ll be quite happy.

Over to you then, Scholes.
