Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has today come to the defence of Raheem Sterling, who he believes has been treated unfairly over claims that he sat out England's Euro 2016 qualifier against San Marino because of fatigue.

After praising the attitude of Raheem Sterling since his arrival at the club, Rodgers then explained how he thought Sterling had once again shown maturity in speaking up when not feeling 100% fit.

This is a kid who we bring up to be responsible, to be honest, you know I think lots of players will tell you they have played when they haven't felt right, but this is a kid who didn't say that. What you do as a coach is take all of the information on board, and then you make a decision, and you have to respect Roy Hodgson's decision.

He then continued:

I think what has been disappointing in the whole affair is that it has been grossly unfair how the kid has been put on the back pages for something he clearly didn't say. For his sake I'm not going to go on too much on it, all I want to say is that he's back here, in a secure environment, and in the last few days he's been back to normal.

We're sure Brendan had a blanket and a cup of hot coco waiting for him when he arrived back at training.
