Danny Ings cannot catch a break with Liverpool.

Just over two years after joining the club from Burnley, Ings has yet to make ten appearances for the first team in that spell after suffering two season-ending injuries.

He has yet to play a league game with Jurgen Klopp on the sidelines. Signed in June 2015 by Brendan Rodgers, the England international suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee in Klopp's first training session.

The 25-year-old returned to action last season, but his comeback only last two League Cup games. In a game against Tottenham last October he suffered ligament damage in his right knee and missed the remainder of the season.

Ings returned to Liverpool's first-team squad during pre-season, but has continued his rehabilitation with the Under-23s team at Melwood in recent weeks.

After playing three games with the reserve side, Ings looked like he was returning to full fitness and form, but it has taken a setback, after he was substituted on Sunday against Manchester City in the first half.

Despite impressing in the opening half-hour, the striker was taken off in a game Liverpool would go on and win 1-0.

After the game, Liverpool's manager Neil Critchley were quick to reassure fans that Ings' departure was purely a "precaution".

It's more a precaution than anything.

He felt something very early in the game and he wasn't quite right, so we're not taking any chances with Danny and there are plenty of first-team games to come.

We'll just look after him and assess him, but I'm sure he'll be fine.

Even with Liverpool claiming all was above board, Liverpool's fans were worried for their striker.
