We knew the deal was close, but Dara O'Shea's move to Burnley has now been officially confirmed, with the centre back signing on until 2027.

The Irish international has been at West Brom since 2017, where his form over the past couple of seasons has more than warranted a move to the Premier League.

With the misery and woe surrounding the quality of Irish footballers, following their loss to Greece, O'Shea's move is a feel good story, that sees another of Ireland's young guns secure a move to England's top league.

"Burnley Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Republic of Ireland international Dara O’Shea from West Bromwich Albion," the club said in a statement on their website.

"O’Shea joins the club on a four-year deal - keeping him at Turf Moor until at least 2027.

"The Dublin-born defender played over a hundred times for the Baggies, including their 2020/21 season in the Premier League."

The 24-year-old O'Shea also commented on the news, with his words highlighting his ambition to excel in the Prem.

It feels great to be here and I really can’t wait to get going.

Burnley were the outstanding team last season and they achieved exceptional things.

I want to improve as a player first and foremost and I want to help the club achieve their goals.

I’m at the stage of my career now when I want to push myself. I want to be the best I can be and this is the club that can help me do that and I can help them too.

Not only are Burnley a club on a serious upward curve, having won the Championship by ten points, their manager Vincent Kompany is one of the best young coaches in the game, and was one of the best centre backs the Premier League has ever seen.

A perfect fit for O'Shea.

"It’s great to welcome Dara to Burnley and we know he can play a big part in the progression of our football club," said Kompany.

"Strong at the back as well as confident moving forward, a leader with experience and knowledge of playing at the highest level.

"Dara will be a great addition to our squad and we can’t wait to start working with him.”
