Darwin Nunez has had a mixed start to life at Liverpool.

He has looked really impressive at times, scoring some excellent goals and looking like a real handful for the opposition. In saying that, he has also dropped some real clangers on occasion.

The Uruguayan looked to be finding his feet at Anfield in recent games, scoring against West Ham in his last outing only to then miss the loss against Nottingham Forest with a slight muscle issue.

It was expected that he would be back in the side for the game against Ajax this evening, being named in the starting XI in Amsterdam.

However, his first half performance will be remembered for one disastrous moment.

Darwin Nunez produces stunning miss against Ajax

Liverpool struggled in the early periods against the Dutch side, giving up a number of good opportunities at the back. They managed to just about hold on, with Mo Salah then popping up to give them the lead.

That looked to inject a bit of life into their performance, with the visitors then taking the initiative in the game.

They should have had a second a few moments later, only for Darwin Nunez to make a right mess of things. The Premier League side split the opposition open with some tidy passing, with Roberto Firmino played in behind the defence. He opted to square the ball to his teammate, who somehow conspired to hit the post despite being faced with an empty net.

Take a look at this one.

A remarkable miss.

Opposition supporters were certainly quick to jump on the mistake.

In a way, this is part of the Darwin Nunez experience. There is no doubting that he is a very talented player, but you will likely have to accept blunders such as this one if you are to also benefit from his moments of brilliance.

Within five minutes of the second half getting underway, he showed exactly why Liverpool paid so much money for him with a thumping header.

There is no doubt that he will score plenty of goals this season even if there is the odd howler along the way. He will certainly do well to produce a worse miss than this one.
