Well this is just fantastic to see.

Former Irish international striker David Connolly has signed for AFC Wimbledon, making him one of only a handful of players to play for both versions of the club. In fact, his new manager is former Wimbledon team-mate Neal Ardley.

Connolly had most recently been playing for Oxford United, on loan from Portsmouth, in League 2, and will now be togging out for AFC Wimbeldon, which his new manager couldn't be happier about.

David is a very good player who is still as sharp as ever. We have looked at various options after Matt Tubbs left and we've decided to bring in two forwards rather than one. David is one of those and he trained with us this morning. It was one of the best training sessions I had seen in a long time and he was exceptional. He looks after himself and he is still in great shape.

We lost an exceptional striker with Matt Tubbs leaving, but David is an out-and-out goalscorer. He is certainly one of the best I played with back in my time with Wimbledon.

David Connolly's first spell at Wimbledon was a roaring success, as he bagged 42 goals in 63 games for the club who rescued him from a largely disappointing spell in Holland with Feyenoord.

Connolly will go straight into the first team squad for this weekend's game with Carlisle.
