Transfer deadline day reached new levels of ridiculousness as we all watched a very strange transfer saga breakdown at the very last minute.

Fingers were pointed, passive aggressive official statements were made, but David De Gea is a Manchester United player, and as it looks like he will instantly re-instated as the club's number one keeper, naturally many will question his happiness with his current surroundings. Fortunately for Man United fans, it sounds like he's perfectly content.

Speaking to the BBC after keeping a clean sheet against Macedonia on Tuesday night, De Gea revealed that he is optimistic going forward:

I felt good.

I really wanted to play. Now I need to keep working and see if I have some good fortune at my club as well.

My future will be the same as now; remain calm, keep working and improving. In concrete terms, enjoy my football. I am happy.

There you have it, the man is happy. He is still loved by the Old Trafford faithful, and he will still almost certainly get his desired move to Real Madrid in the near future, so for now he is being patient and making the best of a regrettable transfer saga.

In the meantime, Man United have got their prized goalkeeper back for another season, and the club's fans will be secretly hoping he breaks up with his long-term Madrid-based musician girlfriend 'Edurne' in the hopes that a nasty split would mean he wants to stay as far away from Madrid as possible.

Or rather, not so secretly hoping, as the poor girl has taken a lot of stick on twitter.
