The Premier League Hall of Fame may only be around since 2021, but it has already stirred up a lot of debate after the latest list of potential inductees was missing a certain Denis Irwin.

This morning the latest addition to the Hall of Fame was announced as former Arsenal and Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole. The former England international won three league titles and was part of Arsenal's Invincibles in 2003/04.

Along with Cole, the Premier League released a list of nominees for the Hall of Fame this year. However, there was one notable Irish name left off the list.

Denis Irwin snubbed for Premier League Hall of Fame

Denis Irwin was a huge part of Manchester United's success in the 90s and early 2000s. He played over 300 league games for the Red Devils, scored 22 goals and winning seven league titles, as well as two FA Cups and the Champions League in 1999.

Irwin is one of the most decorated players in Premier League history with only fellow Manchester United teammates Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville winning more titles than the Cork man. Irwin, along with Roy Keane, is among the most decorated non-British players in Premier League history as well.

Irwin is the player with the most accolades yet to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and to be left off the shortlist entirely has had a lot of Manchester United and Irish Premier League fans outraged online.

It should be only a matter of time before Irwin gets welcomed into the Hall of Fame, there's not many players more deserving of the acclaim.

It's just a shame that his achievement have not already been recognised.
