If there was one thing we could count on after Manchester City's destruction of Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night, it was that El Chiringuito would have something to say on the matter.

The infamous Spanish late night football chat show has become synonymous with giving a surreal view into the minds of Real Madrid fans when big news breaks, and Wednesday night was no different.

After Manchester City's mauling of Carlo Ancelotti's men at the Etihad Stadium saw Real exit the Champions League at the semi-final stage, El Chiringuito hit the screen at midnight Spanish time - with ex-Madrid man Guti at the heart of a simply sensational and hilarious opening.

Manchester City v Real Madrid prompts another vintage El Chiringuito moment

Josep Pedrerol rose to prominence worldwide with his reactions to the European Super League proposals in 2021, and his surreal takes on issues such as Real Madrid's pursuit of Kylian Mbappé, as well as their rivalry with Barcelona, has endeared him as one of the more bizarre figures in the European football media.

He handed the limelight over to a studio guest on Wednesday, however, with ex-Real Madrid man Guti in the studio to discuss the 4-0 defeat suffered by Real at the Etihad to send them crashing out of the Champions League.

In an extraordinary opening, El Chiringuito chose to zero in on the mournful face of Guti, sat silently in reflection after seeing his former club destroyed on the biggest stage. This opening did not last mere seconds - in fact, it ran for over two full minutes.

The caption of their tweet with the video read "Guti, the face of Madridismo."

We're now imagining a world in which Sky Sports open their analysis of a Manchester United loss with Gary Neville's sad face staring into space for nearly three full minutes.

Guti and the panel went on to dissect the loss to City, with El Chiringuito thanking Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois for his heroics keeping City to "only" four goals.

In the discussion of Real's Champions League exit, Guti was not the only Real Madrid legend to lend his opinion. 1998 Champions League winner Predrag Mijatovic spoke about the changes he expects to see at the club in the aftermath of the defeat, saying he fears for the future of Carlo Ancelotti as manager.

There is no doubting that Manchester City put in an astonishingly good performance on Wednesday night - but the limp manner in which Real Madrid crashed out of the tournament has left their fans and former players hurting.
