Earlier today it appeared as though Manchester United's next summer signing would be Ilkay Gundogan after club sponsors tweeted, and then deleted, a message suggesting the German midfielder was destined for Old Trafford.

But now it appears that Brazilian attacking midfielder Roberto Firmino is set to join Manchester United after ESPN Brazil journalist Jose Elias tweeted that a fee of €18m was agreed with Bundesliga side Hoffenheim and that a medial is scheduled to take place soon.

Firmino has attracted attention from some of Europe's top clubs after emerging as one of the brightest talents in the Bundesliga, providing goals and assists from an advanced position on a regular basis. His best position is believed to be just off of the front striker, but he has also played as a conventional striker at times.

Roberto Firmino has scored three goals in six appearances for the Brazilian national team since making his debut last year. He is regarded as one of the brightest talents in Europe at 23 years of age, and for the rumoured fee of €18m it would represent good value for Manchester United.

Nothing has been confirmed as of yet, but Elias is confident enough to put his reputation on the line as it were, so it's worth following this story in the coming hours and days.
