The FAI Fire Back At St. Pat's Over 'Logic Defying' Statement

St. Pat's followed Derry City's lead yesterday by releasing a statement saying that they were going to refuse the €5,000 grant from the FAI proposed for all SSE Airtricity league. Among St. Pat's reasons for refusing the money is that the FAI has 'utterly failed the domestic game'.

But now the FAI is hitting back.

According to an FAI statement, feedback from St. Pat's themselves went a long way to the strategic grant. A statement from FAI's Director of Communications Ian Mallon said:

St Patrick's Athletic's statement is extraordinary, given that they, through their rep Frank Kinsella, were central to the Strategic/Business strategy process agreement.

Frank Kinsella attended the meeting between the PCA and the FAI, with Michael Cush, agreed and signed off on the process, and now, more than a week later his club has decided they don't want to be a part of something they agreed to in the first place. It defies all logic.

St. Pat's statement did suggest that they their board released their stance after consultation with Mr. Kinsella after the meeting with the FAI.

There was no response to Derry City's stance on the matter from the FAI at all.
