On Tuesday, the Faroe Islands held France to a remarkable 1-1 draw in their European Championship U21 clash in Torshavn.

All in all, it was an incredible result for the Faroes who were up against a star-studded French side.

Leeds United and Premier League regular Ilian Meslier was between the sticks for France.

Highly-rated and much spoken about Eduardo Camavinga also played for France, but that was not enough to deny the Faroes a famous result.

While the result was quite something, there was something else that grabbed the headlines just as much.

As Meslier came out to meet the ball, the Leeds keeper produced an absolute blunder to gift the Faroes an equaliser. Steffan Lokin's shot dribbled into the net from just past the halfway line.

Cue bedlam amongst the Faroese commentators who were working on the game.

There was something quite telling about the reaction to the goal that should not go unnoticed.

It is rare enough that slow burners reach the back of the net, but that it did.

The two commentators were almost willing the ball into the back of the net, and thankfully for them, it did.

To make it even better, it was their only shot of the game, with France having no less than 30 of their own..

As expected, France enjoyed much of the play and chances prior to Meslier's howler.

But they could not react well enough from that mistake to retake the lead.

The result, in truth, matters little for the Faroes in terms of their qualification hopes. Although, it means so much more than that.

They currently occupy 3rd position in their group campaign, and they are level on points with the French.

France, however, have a game in hand on the Faroes. And they would be expected to win that game.

But that result against the Faroes leaves them with work to do if they are to qualify for the U21 European Championship.

While it was not the most memorable for them, at least they might see the funny side of it in the next few years when they listen back to the commentary..
