Manchester United need a new centre back this summer, and it seems that their search for suitable recruitments has honed in on Leicester City's Harry Maguire. The England international has built up a decent reputation over the last 12 months or so, largely based on his performances at last summer's World Cup in Russia.
His rising standing within the game has not been missed by his current club, who have requested an astronomical fee in return for his services. While that originally may have proved a stumbling block for United, they now appear to have wilted.
In a story originally broken by The Sun, it has been reported that the clubs have agreed an £80million deal for the defender. He will undergo his medical in Manchester tomorrow.
That fee would make Harry Maguire the most expensive defender in football history, surpassing the £75million Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk in January 2018.
While he is a good player, such a fee seems like a huge overpay.
Unsurprisingly, there has been quite a mixed reaction to the deal.
The fans complaining of Harry Maguire were probably the same fans who laughed at Van Djik £75m to Liverpool. Was any of them worth the money at the time ? No. Where they better than what both clubs had at the time of purchase ? Absolutely

My thoughts on Harry Maguire.
Is he better than what we’ve got? 100%. Is he worth £80m? No chance. Am I arsed about the fee? Not really. As long as the money is going towards improving the squad rather than going into the Glazers back pockets, then I’m happy.

Virgil Van Dijk : £75 million
Harry Maguire : £80 million
I’ll just leave this right here.

Harry Maguire for 80 Million. 80 FUCKING MILLION. HARRY MAGUIRE.

Harry Maguire is reportedly set to join Manchester United for a world record £80 million fee.
He’s been part of defences which have conceded 13 goals in the last 4 games Leicester have played against Palace, so I’m biased but I struggle to see the attraction at that price.

£80m for Harry Maguire is mental! Slightly better version of Phil Jones.
