Manchester United need a new centre back this summer, and it seems that their search for suitable recruitments has honed in on Leicester City's Harry Maguire. The England international has built up a decent reputation over the last 12 months or so, largely based on his performances at last summer's World Cup in Russia.

His rising standing within the game has not been missed by his current club, who have requested an astronomical fee in return for his services. While that originally may have proved a stumbling block for United, they now appear to have wilted.

In a story originally broken by The Sun, it has been reported that the clubs have agreed an £80million deal for the defender. He will undergo his medical in Manchester tomorrow.

That fee would make Harry Maguire the most expensive defender in football history, surpassing the £75million Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk in January 2018.

While he is a good player, such a fee seems like a huge overpay.

Unsurprisingly, there has been quite a mixed reaction to the deal.
