A Honduran international Arnold Peralta has been shot dead in a shopping mall in his hometown of La Ceiba.

He was on holiday is his native town following the conclusion of the Honduran club season.

Police said no suspects were in custody and the motive for the attack remains unknown. Robbery has been ruled out as a motive.


Carlos Peralta, the player's distraught father, confirmed that his son had been killed at a press conference.

He was playing for Honduran club Deportivo Olimpia. He had played for Rangers for two seasons between 2013 and 2015.
