With everyone chopping and changing their squads ahead of gameweek 1 in FPL, choosing defenders on a budget that will guarantee you points during the season can prove slightly difficult.

Even though you can pick up the likes of Reece James and Kyle Walker for £6 million and £5 million, we are going to take a look at the best alternatives to the higher priced players that are available at a cut price of £4 million.

FPL: Defenders under £4 million

1.Neco Williams - £4 million

Nottingham Forest's new versatile full back Neco Williams is perhaps the biggest bargain on FPL this year. The former Liverpool man can play on both sides of the defence and one of his biggest strengths is his ability going forward.

The Welsh international will likely see plenty of game time for the Premier League newcomers after signing for a deal around £16 million and if you're looking for a defender at a bargain price, Nico Williams is without a doubt the player for your FPL side.

2. Brandon Williams - £4 million

Brandon Williams is a similar player to Neco Williams in that he is comfortable in playing at both left and right back. After spending last season on loan at Norwich, the Manchester United academy graduate is now back at Old Trafford and could possibly find game time under new manager Erik Ten Hag.

Although he does face competition for that starting right back place in Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan Bissaka, the right back place is certainly up for grabs and for £4 million, Williams would be a great addition to anyone's FPL squad.

Of course, there is also the possibility of a move before the end of the window.

3. Kenedy - £4 million

Since arriving at Chelsea in 2015, it's safe to say that Kenedy has found game time limited at Stamford Bridge and has been loaned out the last five seasons. Despite this, the Brazilian has seen game time on pre season and with Marcos Alonso moving ever closer to a move to Barcelona and Ben Chilwell's historic injury issues, Kenedy could end up playing a role in Chelsea's squad this season.

With Thomas Tuchel primarily using wing backs, this gives license to those players to get forward and at a bargain price like this, including Kenedy in your FPL squad even as a substitute could be worthwhile.

4. Nathan Patterson - £4 million

Patterson has found game time at Everton hard to come by since joining from Rangers in January due to a number of reasons. Patterson was bought by Rafa Benitez who was sacked shortly after his arrival and after Frank Lampard's appointment, Seamus Coleman was his preffered option.

Despite the Irish captains good form, he has had his injury issues in recent years and should Coleman pick up knocks, Patterson will be the man to fill in and would be worth a shot for your FPL side at the cut price of just £4 million.
