Watford defender Miguel Britos was given his marching orders this afternoon in Watford's game against Brighton and Hove Albion when the defender made an outrageous and totally unnecessary lunging tackle on Anthony Knockaert.

With the game scoreless after 24 minutes, Britos and Knockaert were chasing down a loose pass inside the Watford half that appeared to be going out of play until the Uruguayan lost his marbles and launched himself off the ground to clear out the Brighton player.

A completely unnecessary tackle from the defender as there was no apparent danger to his side with the ball was probably going to go out for a Watford throw in and it was nowhere near their goal.

Let's have a look at the frame by frame moronic lunge:

Britos was favourite to get the ball first but if he had any sense, he would have ushered the ball out for a Watford throw-in. What makes the challenge even more reckless was that it was in full view of the linesman who was a yard away from the incident.

The red card had an impact on the game for Watford as they were unable to score and drew 0-0 with Brighton who get their first point of the season.
