In case you hadn't heard, amongst the FIFA corruption scandal that has lead to arrests and resignations of many of the leading FIFA officials including long term president Sepp Blatter - news emerged of a €5 million payment.

Former FAI chief executive Fran Rooney is the latest to slam the FAI and FIFA over this payment. Rooney wants an investigation into FAI over what he labels as 'not transparent'.

Speaking to Newstalk breakfast, Rooney thinks that there is no reason why any payment between a sport's governing body and national associations should have confidentiality clauses. Rooney thinks that the entirety of the payment should be disclosed and should have been at the time five years ago.

Fran Rooney says that, from speaking to people at the FAI's AGMs in the last five years, there was no clear mention of the €5 million in the accounts. Rooney says it appears that the payment was hidden within the account, but for a sum of that money should have been flagged. Rooney wants the FAI to come forward to show where the money was in the accounts.

While both sides have admitted the existence of the payment. There are still inconsistencies between the stories, while a lot of the details appear murky. It remains to be seen whether an investigation into the FAI would help this should it happen.
