France stumble to starting line

France stumble to starting line
By Alfredo Garcia Updated

Well, it seems Ireland weren't cheated out of their place at the World Cup for the sake of an epic destiny. They were kept out by a mediocre squad wracked by infighting and led by a coach who still hasn't been forgiven by their fans for proposing to his girlfriend at the press conference following their Euro 2008 exit.

Their form has been abysmal in the build up; despite playing their first choice XI in all three friendlies, they lost 2-0 to a shadow Spain side, beat Costa Rica after falling behind, and, in the latest game were beaten 1-0 by China. Apparently, sleeping with seventeen year old prostitutes is not the best preparation for a World Cup Finals. Who knew?

Here's the highlights of France's new low. I can't tell if the free kick is deflected or if that's the problem with the new ball that Victor Valdes and David James were ranting on about last week. Thoughts in comments please.

In other France news, Thierry Henry has been officialy demoted to the bench, so Patrice Evra will captain the side at the finals. This should suit Henry fine, since he's been doing that for Barcelona all year.
