Gary Neville has clarified his criticism of Paul Pogba's recent social media post in the aftermath of Jose Mourinho's sacking by Manchester United.

Six minutes after the news broke that United had dismissed the Portuguese boss, Pogba released a sponsored post on his social media which was soon deleted. At the time, Gary Neville responded on Twitter by saying "you can do one as well".

Adidas later confirmed that it was a commercial post, and the dodgy timing led to its removal.

Paul Pogba's social media posts were a scheduled event, part of a marketing campaign. Immediately taken down once it became apparent that it could be misconstrued as disrespectful to Manchester United and José Mourinho.

However, speaking on Sky Sports, Gary Neville claimed it did come from Pogba and said it was 'disrespectful.'

I've only had one problem with Paul Pogba and that was his post which I think disrespected Jose Mourinho in losing his job, which has not been denied.

We know it didn't come from the club, we know it didn't come from Adidas, we know it came from Paul Pogba. My view personally is that it was a massive disappointment to disrespect someone who lost their job.

Neville went on to explain it is consistent with his view in similar situations elsewhere:

"From a football point of view, think about my stance on Alexis Sanchez having a bet with his team-mate around the manager being sacked. Given my stance on Shaqiri at the end of last season when he said those words at Stoke about the players and the situation there.

"I do think these situations are the worst when a player disrespects, there is a line that needs to be drawn, we can't just forget everything that's happened in the past."

The comments were not well received by a large section of Manchester United fans online.

Since Mourinho's departure, Pogba has been superb in showings against Cardiff, Huddersfield and Bournemouth.
