Some cynics argued that flopping at Valencia would adversely affect his ability as a pundit, but those doubts were dispelled within 20 minutes of the return of Monday Night Football.

When chatting about Joe Hart's position about Man City - dropped by Pep Guardiola in favour of Willy Caballero, with Claudio Bravo en route from Barcelona - Neville drew on his own Spanish experience to explain why Hart should stay exactly where he is.

Neville believes the style of training he witnessed during his brief stint at Valencia - likely implemented at City by Pep - will hugely benefit Hart's football skills. In Spain, Neville said he found goalkeepers would essentially train as outfield players, joining in for the 4 v 4 training games, and focusing on their actual handwork with the goalkeeping coaches after the rest of the squad go home.

Towards the end of the show, Neville was asked about his time at Valencia, and he fronted up superbly well, admitting he had regrets and that he wished he had more time, but ultimately had no excuse as results were "shocking".

The questions arrived via viewers' tweets, and Jamie Carragher seemed to enjoy it. Have a watch:

Later on, Neville was asked how it felt to lose 7-0 to Barcelona, and he admitted it was among his worst experiences in football, with producers preventing him from finishing the sentence that "Neymar was taking the piss".

While Carragher revelled in the questioning initially, he did say that he felt sorry for Neville during the 7-0 defeat to Barca (Carragher was looking down on him from the press box) and that he had great respect for Neville's decision to take the plunge.
