Virgil van Dijk is one of the most well-known footballers in the world, but despite the fame that comes with that, even sportspeople can be starstruck when they meet certain people.
As it turns out, the big Dutch defender is a huge fan of Cillian Murphy.
The Cork native has rose to superstardom since taking the role of Th🤣omas Shelby in Peaky Blinders, with the BBC show becoming one of the most popular we have seen over the last couple of decades.
It has certainly proven to be a big hit among footballers.

Virgil van Dijk appeared on The Overlap alongside Gary Neville, with the Sky Sports pundit asking him who the most famous person he had in his contacts was.
When he revealed that it was Cillian Murphy, Neville had to reveal his own story about the Irish actor.

Neville: Who is the most famous contact in your phone?
Van Dijk: Cillian Murphy from Peaky Blinders.
Neville: You have Cillian Murphy's?! No you don't! Did you know he turned down a picture with me? I was on a set one day and at the end of the day I asked him if we could have a picture. He went 'no I don't do those sorts of things', let alone get his number.
Van Dijk: I think he probably did it because in the middle of filming you don't want to risk that it will go online, if you know what I mean.
Neville: You're just being nice to me now, aren't you?
Van Dijk: I would say that's the reason.
Neville: So you've got Cillian Murphy's number? Ah....
Brilliant.
Van Dijk has met with Cillian Murphy in person at least one occasion before. He gave the actor and his kids a tour around Anfield back in February of 2020.
