Graeme Souness Manages To Complain About Defending For Giroud Goal

While the world was trying to come to terms with the perfection of Olivier Giroud's scorpion kick that gave Arsenal the lead against Crystal Palace on New Year's Day, Graeme Souness may very well have been the only person pointing out the flaws in the defending.

The move involved quick one-touch passing to get the ball from box to box, the cross from Sanchez was slightly behind the big Frenchman, and the Giroud delivered the most incredible of flicks that went in off the crossbar... It was poetry in motion.

And yet, Souness reckons that Mathieu Flamini, or Fellaini, as he called him, pulled out of the challenge.

Speaking at half-time, Souness admitted that it was a fantastic moment of skill from Giroud, but still had some reservations about the former Arsenal man Flamini allowing it to happen.

Graeme Souness: Well, Fellaini [Flamini] doesn't put his head on it.

Jamie Carragher: Ah Graeme, you can't!

GS: I can only think, watch Fellaini [Flamini] here.

JC: Flamini!

GS: I think, you were a defender, the only thing he can be thinking there is I'm going to help this towards my own goal. He has pulled his head away. No?

JC: We can't, we got to talk about Giroud haven't we? Not Fellaini.

Incredible.

And top marks to Jamie Carragher for having absolutely none of it, a man who is never afraid to take the limelight away from a striker to point out defensive errors.

Souness had been taking stick from Arsenal fans on social media all day for claiming that they were 'always the bridesmaid' in the title race, but now we can expect that to only get far, far worse.

Tough to impress.
