It was clear to most observers right from the outset that Jose Mourinho's spell at Spurs was unlikely to go all that well. His recent history suggested that things were likely to go south at some stage, with the London club hardly in the most promising of positions when he took over.

After some brief promise at the start of this season, things soon took a turn. The Portuguese manager lost his job on the week of the League Cup final, suggesting just how keen Daniel Levy was to get him out of the club.

Spurs were absolutely dire during his final few games in charge, playing the type of unexciting, low energy style that would not have appeased supporters had they been in the stadium.

It was also a game plan that didn't seem all that suited to the personnel at his disposal, especially when you consider the way they used to play under former boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Speaking on The Overlap with Gary Neville, Harry Kane admitted that it was a big adjustment playing under Mourinho's style. He also said that a lack of leadership in the team is what ultimately cost the former Chelsea manager his job.

It was pretty much completely different if I’m honest. Just in the style of play, the way they set up, tactical training we would do.

Obviously Mauricio we do a lot of gym work, it was a lot gym base whereas Jose wasn’t so much into that but Jose obviously expected us to be men and act like men on the pitch, have leaders on the pitch.

To be honest, that’s probably where it didn’t quite work out with Jose we didn’t quite have enough leadership that we needed at the time.

Obviously the club was in a difficult stage, with Mauricio getting sacked it’s never easy a new manager coming in.

I think with Jose I had a great relationship with him, we got on from minute one. I think we understood each other, we had a similar mentality and how we saw stuff on the pitch, off the pitch and mentality in training so we kind of built that relationship.

Again it’s a shame we couldn’t go on to win things but I’ve been lucky enough to work with Mauricio and Jose, they’re two incredible managers that’s only helped me in my career for sure.

Spurs went from being one of the most hard-working, high pressing teams in the Premier League to sitting near the bottom of the charts in terms of running stats.

They also seem to lack fitness, with Mourinho's training methods not the most conducive when it comes to getting his players into peak physical condition.

All of this has culminated in Harry Kane's desire to leave the club, something we are likely to hear plenty about in the coming weeks and months.
