Harry Redknapp Picks Team Of The Season, Comes Agonisingly Close To Not Screwing It Up

Self-proclaimed miser Harry Redknapp has aggregated his team of the Premier League weekend into a team of the season in The Telegraph this afternoon, and there were two outliers in an otherwise pretty accurate line-up.

Harry has proven that retirement has allowed him to see past the great English dogma of 4-4-2, so he has selected his players of the season in a 4-3-3. A quick skim across it would lead you to think he had got it spot on: De Gea in nets; Virgil Van Dijk and Toby Alderweireld at centre-back; N'Golo Kanté anchoring a midfield with Dimitri Payet and Riyad Mahrez wither side of him; Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku (admittedly slightly out of position) flanking Jamie Vardy up front.

If two out of three isn't bad, then nine out of 11 is a respectable score. We say this because the entire selection process went all Louis Van Gaal and made a coupe of mad choices at full-back. At right-back is Bournemouth's Adam Smith, while Norwich's (Norwich!) Martin Olsson is at left-back. Both are decent players who have had reasonable seasons, but it seems exceptionally harsh on Christian Fuchs, Hector Bellerin, Danny Rose, Kyle Walker and Aaron Cresswell to name but a few.

Furthermore, Cesc Fabregas makes the bench, where he can consider himself fortunate to be alongside Kevin De Bruyne and Dele Alli.
