Injured Benjamin Mendy's Celebration For Sterling Winner Was Comedy Gold

Despite only arriving at Manchester City in the summer, Benjamin Mendy has already established himself as one of the most intriguing - if not funniest - characters in the Premier League.

While his behaviour is such that Roy Keane would simply refuse to play in any squad he is a part of, the goofy carefree nature of his Tweets and general madness since he was signed by Pep Guardiola has gone down very well with Premier League fans everywhere.

But the absolute best example of what a loveable oddball he is came as Raheem Sterling scored a massive last-minute winner against Southampton on Wednesday night.

It was a goal that was very much the mark of champions elect and as such the benches cleared, which would commonly present a problem for a player who is out injured returning from ACL surgery. But not for Benjamin Mendy.

The Frenchman hobbled as fast as he good to get in on the celebrations as fast as he could, and even Snapchatted the scenes with goalscorer Raheem Sterling. The Match of the Day panel had to take time out to salute this comedy moment.

Daft.

True to form, the incident was up on Mendy's Twitter within moments:

The fact that he took a selfie, on the pitch, with a player, during a match has divided opinion, with Danny Murphy stating that the 'game has gone mad', and Ian Wright insisting that he doesn't mind it. Make up your own mind there.

Pep Guardiola was asked for his opinion on one of his players who is recovering from knee surgery attempting to run 40 meters, and his response hit the nail on the head, and thus is the perfect way to conclude this article.

Mendy is crazy.
