On Monday, eight players had been ruled out of Ireland's World Cup qualifier with Wales on Friday due to injury.

Shane Duffy, Harry Arter, Wes Hoolahan, Rob Elliot, Paul McShane, Ciaran Clark, Liam Kelly and David McGoldrick were those making up a lengthy list of those unavailable for selection by Martin O'Neill.

That list got even longer on Tuesday afternoon. Due to a calf injury Daryl Murphy withdrew from the squad, removing another option from an already bare strikers cupboard.

It leaves O'Neill's forward options as Shane Long, Jonathan Walters and Kevin Doyle.

Roy Keane sat before the media on Tuesday to give an update on the fitness of the Ireland squad.

James McCarthy hasn't trained this week due to a hamstring injury and it is now growing ever more unlikely that the Everton midfielder will be fit to face Wales.

James McCarthy didn't train today. If he doesn't join in with the group tomorrow I would say he is very doubtful.

Add to this the suspension of Robbie Brady. O'Neill is growing very close to being down to the bare bones.

Seamus Coleman didn't train on Tuesday. However, he is expected to train on Wednesday.
