Unai Emery's successful start to his Aston Villa reign continued with a 2-1 win over Brighton this afternoon, but Villa fans were not particularly pleased with the match commentary of Jamie Carragher.

They took to social media to accuse Jamie Carragher of having an anti-Villa stance because of the sacking of his ex-teammate and good mate Steven Gerrard.

Is Jamie Carragher Too Biased Towards Steven Gerrard?

Carragher had previously backed Gerrard to be a success at Aston Villa, and was particularly enthused by Gerrard's prospects in an article for the Telegraph, where he claimed that Gerrard could someday be mentioned alongside the likes of  Pep Guardiola and Antonio Conte.

"There is no reason why Gerrard cannot one day join Pep Guardiola and Antonio Conte in the list of those who won the Champions League as players and went on to become successful managers," Carragher wrote.

"That suggestion brings a lot of pressure, but why not? Gerrard made more top-level club appearances than Guardiola and Conte and featured in more international games. Like them, he has fully immersed himself into the coaching world from the bottom up.

While it is still relatively early days the managerial career of Stevie G, there would be few who would back him to ever become one of the elite managers in the game, and Carragher certainly would have been shocked at his early sacking at Villa.

During today's Premier League clash with Brighton, fans perceived negativity from Carragher's towards their club and felt that it stemmed from his relationship with Gerrard, and the fact that he did not want to be proven wrong if Villa were to be successful under Emery.

A particularly contentious issue was a Brighton penalty shout in the 71st minute, which Carragher felt was a stonewall spot-kick.
