Jamie Carragher Made Gary Neville's Infamous 7-0 Defeat To Barcelona Even Worse

Gary Neville is a brilliant pundit, but it is fair to say that he didn't quite make the grade as a manager.

In saying that, his only job in management was an incredibly difficult one. He took over Valencia mid-season, one of the biggest teams in Spain that were performing well below their usual standards. The fact that he didn't speak the language and lacked basic knowledge about La Liga also didn't help.

Neville would last four months in charge of the club, recording just two wins in all competitions over that time. There were some real low points during that spell, but the worst of them probably came against Barcelona.

Valencia would lose 7-0 in their Copa del Rey first leg fixture at the Nou Camp, having been 4-0 down and reduced to ten men before the interval.

It was the game that all but sealed Neville's fate at the club, facing into a very tetchy press conference after the contest.

It probably didn't help that Jamie Carragher was there to rub salt in his wounds.

Gary Neville recalls Jamie Carragher's reaction at 7-0 loss to Barcelona

Speaking on The Overlap Live, Neville recalled how the whole thing was made even worse by the presence of a sneering Jamie Carragher in the press conference room.

Neville: I knew one word. I used to say 'concentración' all the time! Honestly, I wish I had a camera on me for the whole four months.

Carragher: So do fucking I!

Neville: Do you know something, this is actually a true story. At the end of that game it was the most brutal press conference you had ever seen in your life.

I'm sat there, there must have been about 100 people in this room at the Nou Camp. The final score was 7-0. [Carragher] was at the back of the press conference!

Carragher: I got a flight over from Liverpool at halftime.

Neville: It's fucking true. I'm there dying on stage, I've got 100 people asking for my blood, and he's at the back smiling!

It wasn't good that. I was struggling.

This was Neville's only foray into management, with the former Manchester United defender previously saying that the whole experience has completely turned him off taking another job in the future.

Jamie Carragher is probably fuming...
