Ahead of Everton's Premier League clash with Spurs tonight, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville broke down yesterday's decision from Chelsea to sack manager Graham Potter.

While some may feel that he needed more time in the job to build a proper squad with proper cohesion, Carragher laid out succinctly why he feels that it is the first thing that Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has got right since taking over the club.

The reason I actually think it was the right thing to do. Because we'll say that Graham Potter hasn't been given time, I get that, but when you haven't got a big CV behind you or big trophies, you've got to hit the ground running.

We had Rafa Benitez at Liverpool, we won the Champions League at the end of the season, but a lot of that season it was very up and down, but in the back of your mind as a player and as a supporter, in the back of your mind you're thinking this is the guy who won two La Ligas with Valencia he knows what he's doing.

"And the reason I think it was the right decision. The worst thing that can ever happen to a club is, they're not sure about a manager, they say lets get to the end of the season, they give him a pre-season. You start the first five games of the season, he loses two, wins one, draws two and you sack him.

"And you've got a manager who has bought players through the summer and you're chasing your tail.

"I agree with everything he [Gary Neville] has said about Todd Boehly, I've been very critical of Todd Boehly, but I think this is the first decision he's got right."
