Former Manchester United and West Ham striker Javier Hernandez was left looking rather embarrassed after his shocking attempted panenka penalty. Chicharito has impressed LA Galaxy fans since moving to the club back in 2020, but the Mexican won't want to see the replays of his late spot kick.

LA Galaxy were drawing 2-2 against Sporting Kansas City in the MLS on Sunday. Hernandez had scored both goals for Galaxy, including a spot kick earlier in the contest, when they were awarded a late penalty in the 96th minute.

The 34-year-old stood up to complete his hat trick and secure a valuable win for his side, but things didn't go to plan for Hernandez.

Chicharito attempted to chip the ball over John Pulskamp, but the Sporting Kansas City keeper remained on his feet and gathered the ball with ease.

Speaking after the game, Chicharito apologised to LA Galaxy fans for the late miss.

Hernandez said:

It's a mental game and I dared to take the shot, and the responsibility of not getting the two [extra] points falls on me.

I accept it, one hundred percent. Unfortunately, I caused my team to drop two points.

But I'm going to keep on working. There's no other way and I have to accept my responsibility. He (Pulksamp) guessed right and that's it.

To make things worse for LA Galaxy, a win over Sporting Kansas City would have seen them move to within a point of the MLS Cup playoffs, but now they remain in eighth place with six games to go.
