John Giles has called Robin van Persie a "prat" on RTE last night, when discussing the Dutchman's current situation at Old Trafford.

The RTE panel analysed Manchester United's defeat to Olympiacos in Greece on Tuesday night, and Giles used the opportunity to castigate van Persie for a perceived lack of effort, which has led to rumours that he wants away from Old Trafford.

The Leeds and Ireland legend read out the post-match comments van Persie made to Dutch TV, and used two clips to advance his argument that van Persie has an attitude problem. According to Giles, van Persie "never tried a leg" against Olympiacos, and should be "trying his best" on the pitch, regardless of which manager is in charge.

Speaking of van Persie's late miss, Giles said "his mind is not on it, it's a goal he should score. That's nothing to do with zones, or other players being in his space - he should knock that in the back of the net. Moyes can't knock that it in the back of the net for him".

Giles also suggested that Moyes be given more time to impose his own vision on the club, which was disputed by Richard Sadlier, who maintained that the Scot is "completely out of his depth", and more at fault than the current squad for their poor season so far.
