Johnny Giles Was Having None Of Alan Pardew's Criticism For Shane Long

Alan Pardew was left unimpressed after Southampton dumped Crystal Palace out of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night, and after the game suggested that the Saints were given a helping hand by the referee who was conned into giving a penalty for a foul on Shane Long.

Pardew suggested that Long has a history of such incidents, clearly suggesting that he felt the Irishman went down too easy, but speaking on Off The Ball on Thursday, Johnny Giles was having none of it.

Alan Pardew never sees it that way, I'll tell ya, he's one of the biggest moaners in the game, Pardew.

Now he's not the only one, any time there's a penalty decision they are totally blinkered, managers, most of them anyway, but Pardew is very sour. Very sour.

There's no doubt that one of Pardew's players will do the same thing, it's like early Wenger, couldn't see anything when it was against him. It's part of the game now for managers, when it doubt, blame the referee. There's no doubt over the season he'll get as many penalties as he has lost.

Well said, Gilesy. If anything, Pardew has a history of talking bollocks in these situations.

Yeah, pull the other one Pards. A clumsy and poor challenge by Martin Kelly, who got himself into a mess with some awful ball control.

It's good to see John Giles sticking up for Long, even if it wasn't really needed considering how blatant a penalty it was.
