Happy "Hold Me Now Day"

Today in 1987, Johnny Logan wowed the entire continent with Hold Me Now and stormed to his second Eurovision victory. It is rumoured (at least by one person in our office), that the electrical surge of kettles boiling for celebratory cups of tea that followed Logan's win caused power outages across the country.

The other legacy of the song, and a far more important one, is in its place in Irish football.

Bohemians fans randomly took the song and made it the anthem of Dalymount Park, apparently during a European game in Norway in 2003, after one of the fans had sang the song (beautifully we're sure) in the pub the night before.

Logan appeared at the ground in 2008, fully decked out in Bohs gear, to serenade the crowd of 3,000 at Kevin Hunt's testimonial. Truly one of the great Irish sporting moments.
