Jose Mourinho's Whinging Hit Wonderful New Levels Of Sarcasm Against Stoke

Charlie Adam is not the most universally loved footballer out there. The Stoke man can be somewhat 'niggly' to put it nicely and there's very few neutrals who would suggest he's their favourite player. However, when he goes up against Diego Costa, he suddenly seems to be fighting the good fight.

When Costa was doing his thing for the underdogs of Atletico he was wonderful to watch. Now that he's doing it for Chelsea, he's a scourge on the football world. That's just the way it is. But there's a reason he's so important for Chelsea and there's a reason Jose Mourinho is less than happy that his star striker might miss the crucial clash with Liverpool this weekend.

Costa clashed with Charlie Adam during the first half of last night's Capital One Cup defeat for Chelsea. The Brazilian was forced off with a rib injury and the Chelsea boss later confirmed that he was brought to hospital as a result. However, it was Mourinho's opening statement that is gaining the most attention this morning.

I think he punched himself. I don’t know how bad the injury is, he’s in the hospital. I don’t know if he will play this weekend.

At least his sarcasm isn't taking too much of a hit. The Chelsea boss was attempting to get yet another dig in at the officials with that comment. However, it seems the sarcasm may have been lost on some.

Speaking to beIN Sports after the game however, Mourinho was significantly less sarcastic.

Jose Mourinho post-matchAfter being dumped from the Capital One Cup by Stoke City Football Club, Chelsea Football Club boss Jose Mourinho was not in the best mood, despite attempting to create the illusion that he wasn't bothered by it all, and felt positive regardless. The incident with Costa was later followed by Charlie Adam's tackle on Willian and, even if Mourinho has a point this time, it's enthralling stuff watching him trying to getting some digs in at the officials when he is so clearly on the ropes himself.
