Jurgen Klopp Is Not Exactly Sympathetic After Daniel Sturridge's Latest Injury

Daniel Sturridge's latest injury has seen countless memes and videos doing the rounds in the usual channels. He's now arrived at the stage where it seems very unlikely he'll be able to get past his injury prone reputation. He's a crock and once you get that label, it's very difficult to shake it off.

You'd think the player would be doing everything he could to put that behind him and get back on the pitch but a very interesting response from Jurgen Klopp today would suggest that may not be the case. Klopp was asked about Sturridge's injury record and whether his long term future at Liverpool is in doubt and there was one golden nugget that a lot of people will be picking up on.

Even when you see the full answer, that sentence still sticks out like a sore thumb (for want of a better phrase).

I cannot think of this like you because I have not been here that long. But I understand. His body had to adapt to the new intensity of training and learn what is serious pain and what is only pain. Everyone wants him back on the pitch but we all have to learn. Training for him was intensive. But we have to stay patient. I am sorry for you, sorry for me, sorry for him.

While many may suggest something is getting lost in translation here, Klopp's remark does match up with what Steven Gerrard had to say about Sturridge's desire in his latest autobiography. It would appear that when the going gets tough, Sturridge just so happens to get injured rather easily.

Whether Klopp's tactic of bringing that belief to the public's attention does much for Sturridge's supposedly fragile mind/body remains to be seen.
