Katie McCabe has completed a remarkable turnaround, after her recent injury worries, by scoring a screamer in Arsenal's 2-1 over Man City in the Women's Super League today.

The Irish captain was a serious injury doubt after being helped off the pitch during Arsenal's recent Champions League win over Bayern Munich, with fears that she may have suffered a fracture and could possibly miss the World Cup.

These fears were alleviated with her inclusion in Vera Pauw's Ireland squad, and she completed the comeback with a top corner stunner in the 74th minute to give her club a crucial win over Man City.

McCabe also received yet another yellow card - a growing trend for McCabe - after shoving the ball into an opponents face when she was taking a throw-in.

Arsenal now lie in second place in the league, level on points with Man City but with a game in hand, and three points behind Man United.

"I never swear but at that moment, I had a bad word coming out,” said Ireland manager Vera Pauw after witnessing McCabe's injury.

“Of course I was very worried. I thought ‘let it not interfere with her World Cup’ because she deserves it so much and Ireland deserves to have her at the World Cup.

“There was a fear of a fracture, yes. With a fracture you always have to wait for how bad it is.

“The first relief was the biggest, that nothing was really damaged, and there is no damage, just swelling. It looks like a very bad bruise on the bone and now the assessment is that if that bruise can heal in time she can play, but that is up to the doctor.”
