Katie McCabe said she was "proud" of her Arsenal teammates after her side lost their Champions League semi-final against Wolfsburg at a packed Emirates Stadium following extra-time.

Monday's second leg finished 2-2 after normal time - the same scoreline as last month's first leg - sending the tie to the additional 30 minutes.

It appeared that the match was going to be decided by penalties until Lotte Wubben-Moy was dispossessed by Jule Brand in the 119th minute, and she slid the ball across the six-yard box for Pauline Bremer to score the winner.

"I’m quite speechless," Ireland captain McCabe, who also skippered Arsenal on Monday, told DAZN after the game.

"I’m so proud of the girls. We gave absolutely everything out there today. We ran for each other, we worked for each other. We came back.

"Girls came on, went off with injuries. Then they scored a winner very, very late on. I’m just so proud of the girls and how we've given everything tonight."

"It says a lot that we lost such high quality players in Beth (Mead), Viv (Miedema), and then most recently Leah (Williamson) and Kim (Little) - our captain and vice-captain - but we stuck together and instill that belief we can go on and challenge in these tournaments.

"Credit to Wolfsburg. They kept it going and we made it difficult for them. I'm honestly just so proud of the girls."

Five minutes prior to Bremer's winner, a cross from McCabe nearly found the net.

Wolfsburg will play Barcelona in the final in Eindhoven on June 3rd.

"It’s going to hurt getting knocked out at this stage, and how it happened," McCabe continued.

"It's about next season now in terms of Champions League. We need to keep pushing in the league. We've got an important game against Leicester next. We need to make sure we're secure in the Champions League for next season."
