Ahead of a new era at Liverpool next season, you get the sense that Caoimhín Kelleher may well feel that this summer if the right time to move on from the club.

The Irishman has acted as the backup goalkeeper at Anfield for a number of seasons, with his appearances largely consigned to secondary cup competitions. However, he has made 26 appearances so far in the current campaign thanks to runs in the Carabao Cup and Europa League, as well as an injury to Alisson Becker.

Kelleher was massively impressive during his spell in the Liverpool team, meaning he is likely to have a few suitors in the transfer market this summer. At 25-years old, he needs to be playing first team football on a weekly basis.

Should he opt to move on, it seems that the Merseyside club already have a potential replacement in mind.

Football Insider are reporting that Liverpool are interested in signing Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford this summer if Caoimhín Kelleher leaves the club at the end of the season.

Trafford only arrived at Turf Moor last summer, moving from Manchester City in a £15million deal. He has gone on to make 28 appearances this season, although he has dropped out of the team in recent weeks.

It is suggested that the Liverpool scouting department are big fans of the 21-year old, who received a first England call-up back in March.

It has previously been rumoured that Liverpool would seek a fee in the region of £20million in order to sanction the sale of Caoimhín Kelleher, an asking price that could well be met after his form this season.

With a new regime set to be installed at Anfield at boardroom and coaching level, it will be interesting to see how this situation plays out over the coming weeks.
