It's another Famous European Night At Anfield™ and this time the visitors are Roma. The last time the Giallorossi pitched up at Anfield was in the Champions League in 2002, and the club experienced the old ground teeming with emotion as Gerard Houllier made a surprising return to the dugout following heart surgery.
It ended with a 2-0 win for Liverpool, which Phil Thompson called "one of the greatest nights in this football club’s history". (Hyperbole plus gratuitous use of "football" and "club" = quintessential Thompson quote). Whether or not it belongs in the pantheon of European nights at Liverpool is up for debate, but it was undoubtedly memorable.
