On Tuesday, the Manchester United players' awards night was held. At the conclusion of the evening, Louis van Gaal was asked to summarise his first year at the club by host Jim Rosenthal.
What came next were 8 or so minutes that no one was really expecting, maybe even the Dutchman. You can watch the full speech at the bottom of the page.
These are the best moments from Van Gaal's sermon to the enthusiastic congregation.
1. "10 matches, 13 points"
After a poor start to the league campaign in which the club had accumulated just 13 points after 10 games came a home match against Crystal Palace. His many years of experience in football made Van Gaal expect the worst. The support he received from the club's fans before kick off, he could not quite comprehend.
How is it possible that the fans are supporting me.
2. This look
"It's very difficult".

3. "And I said, Yes! - we go for it"
Van Gaal recounted a meeting following the loss to Arsenal in the FA Cup. Wayne Rooney believed that second place in the league was attainable.
This was the Dutchman's response.

He's a mad man.
4. "What I want to say to you, we are very close"
Following that player meeting the club went on an unbeaten run which ended with defeat at Chelsea. Van Gaal declared Utd to have been the better team in that game and stated that if they had won then they could have been much closer to the top of the league. His fundamental point was "we are very close".
5. "Hello, hello, hey - pay attention to the manager"
At the behest of Ryan Giggs, Van Gaal returned to the stage for an encore to thank a female saxophonist. The crowd, a little bit rowdy, presumably having like the manager having consumed some alcoholic beverages.
This was how the 63-year-old attained their attention.
6. Thanking the lady that plays the saxophone
7. Handshake for Dwight Yorke, a slap for Ryan Giggs.
Never outbid Louis van Gaal in an auction. A slap across the ceann awaits.
