We've all been moody teenagers. The type who staunchly argues against a point, especially when we must know that we're being delusion.
Sometimes, this confusion lasts beyond the teenage years - and can show up when someone is under pressure. Take Louis van Gaal for example. Having just seen his team beaten convincingly 3-0 by Tottenham Hotspur - the same Spurs who have eight points more than Utd - van Gaal decides that his team is better than Spurs still.
Van Gaal backed this up by berating a journalist who would dare suggest otherwise:
I am sorry for Tottenham but Manchester United is a bigger club. I think it is a little bit pathetic that you asked that because they have won 3-0. But it is OK, you enjoy yourself, I think.
In the balance we are still ahead and you take one match as something.
United didn't seem to be playing too badly in the first half arriving infamously arriving late causing a delay to the game - but Spurs went up a level that United couldn't match to win 3-0 in the second half. Despite the evidence to the contrary, Van Gaal seemed to think that Spurs didn't play better than his team:
In the second half we were equal.
You'd have to wonder if he actually believes that in private or not.
