Many questions had been raised over the future of Manchester United defender Johnny Evans, with the Old Trafford club linked with several different defenders so far in this transfer window.

Well now it seems that the future of the Northern Ireland defender is certain, as Manchester United have agreed a fee believed to be in the region of £8m with Everton for his sale, according to The Guardian.

Evans' Manchester United career stalled last season as his reliable unreliability once again prevented him from earning a successive run in the side, and when he did play his form was widely criticised by fans of the club. Evans showed promise in seasons past but ultimately injuries scuppered any momentum he managed to gain.

Everton will bring Evans in to compete with Phil Jagielka and John Stones for a position at the heart of their defence, as they allowed veteran defender Sylvain Distin to join Bournemouth on a free earlier this summer. Evans will also be re-united with former teammate Tom Cleverley who arrived at Goodison Park following a loan spell at Aston Villa, and it's hard to imagine either player will be badly missed by United fans.

The departure of Evans will surely mean that Manchester United bring in another central defender, as currently Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Paddy McNair, and Tyler Blackett are the only options at the position.
