While the main focus for Manchester United this summer will be to sign a top class striker, there are a number of other positions in the squad that they will also look to upgrade.

It seems they will be in the market for a central midfielder, with the club reportedly keen to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea. As well as that, new recruits at right back, winger, and goalkeeper could also be considered.

You can probably add a centre back to that list.

Manchester United seem to be in the market for a high priced centre back every summer, perhaps pointing at their poor recruitment strategy in recent years. A number of expensive arrivals, such as Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Eric Bailly have failed to meet expectations at the club.

Rapahel Varane's injury issues have also been of concern, meaning Erik ten Hag could look to add a new potential partner for Lisandro Martinez in the months ahead.

Napoli's Kim Min-jae has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford, although it seems the club are also considering other options.

Manchester United linked with Premier League defender

Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg is reporting that Manchester United are considering a move for Leeds United defender Robin Koch this summer.

The German international arrived at Elland Road for a fee of around £13million in the summer of 2020, going on to make 73 appearances in the Premier League.

Koch is likely to be available on a cut price deal this summer after Leeds' relegation to the Championship, with the player only having 12 months remaining on his current contract. A number of Premier League clubs are said to be interested in his services.

It is highly likely that the 26-year old is seen as a backup option should Manchester United's preferred targets not sign for the club, although signing a cheaper centre back would leave funds available to also strengthen further areas of the squad.

Leeds never like selling players to Manchester United, although they would no doubt consider any offers if the money was right.
