Welcome to a new and fascinating way to ridicule and evaluate the performance of professional athletes.

Here at Balls.ie we strive to bring you the most in depth analysis, and what better way to analyse the biggest game of the weekend than with the use of emojis on a scale of "Skull emoji" to "Prayer Hand emoji". We told you it was in depth.

Here is the key where you can find out which emoji represents what type of performance:

Manchester United swept their bitter rivals Manchester City aside in Sunday evening's late kickoff despite conceding an early goal to Sergio Aguero, who United fans are absolutely sick of at this stage. The Reds rallied and then overwhelmed City, who looked lost and resembled a team of individuals just lumped together like a squad built by using the money cheat on Football Manager. The end result was even perhaps flattering to City, who threw in the towel in a manner which will no doubt upset their fans greatly.

Here is how we rated the starting XI's:

De Gea had little to do and was not at fault for either goal. Smalling gave one of his better performances in a United shirt, while Daley Blind's hair was a standout performer on the day. Michael Carrick absolutely bossed it and may have taken on the form of a unicorn at one stage in the second half, while Ashley Young stole the show with a performance worthy of the "Prayer hand emoji", the highest rating a player can receive.

Man City looked like they had their tactics spot on after a brilliant opening 15 mins, but they soon fell apart. Losing Kompany at half time due to injury threw their organisation out the window, and Milner, David Silva, and Sergio Aguero left the pitch as the only players in blue to give a respectable performance.
