Mario Gotze Takes Pubescent Teenager Approach To Rumours Of Liverpool Transfer

Originally, humans were not very good at technological development. We began making stone hammers about 2.6 million years ago, but it took us a good 2.5 million years until the stone age arrived and we realised it might be a good idea to put a handle on this piece of stone. Thus the hammer was born.

We have improved exponentially since, and we now carry in our pockets a device which can criticise the basis of a Conor McGregor article instantly, regardless of the country in which it is published. Every realm of human interaction has been affected by this technological revolution, including some good old fashioned 'courting'.

We're all aware of how the communications revolution has affected this arena. In secondary school, as we were all undergoing truly terrifying biological changes, we realised we would have to ask out girls. The step after falling deeply, deeply in love with the first girl you saw was to try and connect with her, and this was done by 'just texting'. The seriousness of any pubescent relationship could be judged by the frequency and volume of text messages.

Liverpool fans are today recalling this awkward posturing of youth as they try and judge exactly how interested World Cup Winner Mario Gotze is in joining heading to Anfield this summer. Gotze has been unable to seal a first-team berth at Bayern Munich since his transfer from Jurgen Klopp's Borussia Dortmund, and has been linked with a summer move to Liverpool to rekindle his relationship with Klopp.

Gotze was asked about such a move in the aftermath of Bayern's weekend win against Werder Bremen, and revealed that he and Klopp are 'just texting':

We are texting now and again.

He was my coach at Borussia Dortmund, but there is nothing special.

When asked if the messages had got serious enough to warrant discussion on a move to Anfield, he quite emphatically replied 'No'.

Although it is not as if the squad is short of intelligent midfielders to play between the lines, it will not dissuade Liverpool fans from reading between them.

Elsewhere, Liverpool are believed to have opened talks with Udinese over the possible transfer of their Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski, who is seen as a replacement for Joe Allen, who looks set to leave Anfield in the summer.
