They did it the hard way, but Manchester United managed to get their second victory of the season after defeating Nottingham Forest 3-2 at Old Trafford this afternoon.

The home side would find themselves 2-0 down inside the opening four minutes, with Taiwo Ayoniwi and Willy Boly giving Forest a dream start.

However, Christian Eriksen would pull one back in the first half, before Casemiro and a penalty from Bruno Fernandes put them in front after the interval. They would then see out the game in a comfortable fashion, with the opposition having a man sent off with half an hour to play.

Martin O'Neill questions big money Manchester United signing

While this was a positive result for Manchester United, it will lead to even further concerns about the current state of their team. The two sloppy goals they conceded in the opening exchanges would have cost them dearly against better opposition.

They have looked dodgy at the back so far this season, with their goalkeeper struggling on occasion today.

Andre Onana has looked questionable since his big money move from Inter Milan, including for both goals this afternoon. It is still far too early to judge him, although some are unsure if he will be a success at United.

Speaking on Premier Sport after the game, Martin O'Neill said he has some big questions about the goalkeeper moving forward. He also dismissed any notion that they would compete for the league title under Erik ten Hag this season.

I think that the jury is out on him at the moment.

He should have been out for the first goal, you're looking for him to come into the picture. There was another very long ball that ended up bouncing two or three times just outside his six yard box and he's still stuck on his line.

I would be concerned about it. At some stage or another, he is going to give a couple of big, big chances away...

In the context of the game, I think it's a big win for Manchester United. They are 2-0 down in the game before the match has even started.

They've had to fight back from that there, the crowd could have easily turned against them. It's a big win in the context of the new season...

Not for me at all, no (United as title challengers). They have no athleticism at all in the middle of the field, over a long season that is going to catch you out.

You need some running power in there. At the minute with the personnel that they have, they don't have that.

Six points on the board from the first three games is certainly a decent return, although the performances in each of those games from Manchester United left plenty to be desired.

They will face a stern test of their credentials next weekend when they travel to take on Arsenal at The Emirates.
