Despite declaring his commitment to Ireland this morning it's still unclear as to whether Martin O'Neill was ever actually close to becoming the new Leicester City manager.

The Ireland boss told media today that he is 100% committed to the quest to qualify for Euro 2016 and added:

Leicester are a very good club, a really good club. It may not be the club that I had before. I was a manager at the old Filbert Street and they’ve since moved grounds and their escape was absolutely fantastic. This is yesterday’s news, it’s gone now. Leicester have appointed a manager with an excellent pedigree and I wish him all the very best.

Does he mean his last stint in charge is yesterday's news or his brief flirt - if there was one - with the possibility of returning to Leicester is yesterday's news? A politician's answer if ever there was one.

O'Neill refused to be drawn on whether he would look to stay on past his current contract, saying he and the FAI will reevaluate when the time comes.
