Roy Keane and Micah Richards, the modern day odd couple.
A year ago, you never really would have envisaged those two forming this sort of bond. However, they are amongst the most entertaining punditry pairs in the game at the moment.
It is very much a good cop, bad cop pairing. Richards is a bubbly, positive character, while Keane is typically dour and short-fused in his punditry. It just works.
When they appear on Sky Sport together, you can see that the former Manchester City player loves to get a rise out of the Irishman. It works more often than not.
Speaking to The Times, he revealed that Keane isn't putting on an act when he appears on television. He also said he is one of the nicest guys he has ever met, even if Richards is still forced to buy the coffee for the studio.
Roy is an amazing guy — one of the nicest guys I have ever met. But it is not an act. When he is on camera, he believes that. He is like, ‘Look at them, they are all celebrating and they haven’t won anything!’
He says it how he sees it and I think that is why people love him so much. He doesn’t sugarcoat anything. If I try and come with that approach, I am not going to get the same respect as him so I can’t go like that.
I like to prod him. I try to get him to smile so people can see a different side to him. It hurts him so much to smile on air, but we will get there.
I am the one buying the coffee at the moment. I am waiting for someone else to come into Sky so I can give it to them.
We look forward to seeing more of the pair next season, with Keane's presence on Sky Sports' punditry line-up confirmed earlier today.
