Ipswich and Lincoln's FA Cup third round replay looked to be heading into extra time on Tuesday night.

Then, with the clock already into the 91st minute, an Ipswich free kick was cleared from the Lincoln box. Adam Marriott began a counter attack which resulted in Nathan Arnold rounding Ipswich keeper Dean Gerken for the winner.

The season so far has been a disappointing one for Mick McCarthy's side. Their form has been incredibly erratic with the team unable to string two wins together. Already, they are 11 points outside the playoffs.

McCarthy has been at Portman Road since November 2012. Progression has been steady, though, they've only reached the playoffs once under the former Ireland manager.

Unrest among fans has begun to increase and the 57-year-old knows it.

After the match, McCarthy said he was embarrassed with the loss to the non-league side.

They dominated the game. They were more competitive than us. They deserved it. I’m embarrassed.

Despite this, he still managed to show some black humour when asked about Ipswich fans singing about what they believe to be his imminent departure from the club.

Sacked in the morning' has been No 1 in Ipswich for a while.

Under McCarthy, Ipswich have finished 14th, 9th, 6th and last season 7th - not bad for a club on what is really a shoestring budget compared to the financial resources of some in the Championship.

If the club want to sack me, so be it, and if the fans are that sick of me then that makes life difficult for me at every game.

When we win it's OK, and when we lose it's 'I'm getting sacked in the morning'.

I've had wonderful support from the fans, I'm not going to complain about them.

That was disappointing for all of us, and even more so for the guys that have travelled up, paid their money and watched a dreadful performance.
